Getting Started
Kaltura Lecture Capture is for capturing screen and/or camera content. Kaltura Express Capture is for capturing camera content. Please make sure your computer meets the following requirements and you are using a supported browsers:
- Kaltura Lecture Capture - Minimum Software and Hardware Requirements for Recording - The first time you go to create a Kaltura Capture video you will be prompted to download and install the Kaltura Capture application.
- Kaltura Express Capture Supported Browsers / Devices - Kaltura Express Capture does not require you to install an application.
Additional equipment:
- Microphone
- Web camera
- Stable high speed internet connection
Create a Kaltura Capture Video for an Assignment
- Click on the name of the Assignment to open.
- Click Submit Assignment button on the top-right to open up an assignment attempt.
- Scroll down past the instructions to the assignment upload box and click on the tab called Text Entry.
- On the text box editor click on the Kaltura icon on the right of the editor box to launch the Kaltura tool.Note: if you do not see the Kaltura icon, click on the expand menu icon (3 dots) and then click on the Kaltura icon.
- This will open the Embed Kaltura Media window
*If you have already created your video in My Media, locate it in your media library list and click Embed next to the video you want to submit.
*If you are creating a video for the first time, click Add New then select Kaltura Capture.
- If you already have the application installed it will automatically launch. If you do not have it installed, follow the directions on the screen to download and install the software on your Mac or PC, leaving the suggested settings during install. - Once you have it installed, Kaltura should launch. Please watch and read the following guide to familiarize yourself with the recording interface and using Kaltura Capture to create and upload videos for your course. Text Guide: Kaltura Capture - Getting Started with Kaltura Capture.
- Quick Tips:
- If you only want to record your webcam and do not want to record your computer screen click on the monitor icon to disable screen recording.
- Click the the down arrow next to Camera to see your camera preview and make sure you have the correct camera selected.
- Click the the down arrow next to Audio to and make sure you have the correct microphone selected.
- To begin your recording click the red circle.
- To stop recording click the grey square. This will launch the Kaltura Capture window and you should see the video you just recorded.

- Quick Tips:
- Give it a title that applies to the recording so you can reference later if need be.
- If you are happy with the recording Click Save and Upload > this may take a while to process depending on how long the video is.
- If you would like to re-record click Delete and Click New Recording

- When you have Saved and Uploaded, click the X on the Kaltura Capture window and click Back on the Embed Kaltura Media window.
- You should see your video listed although it may still be processing (indicated by gears moving). Click Embed next to your video in order to embed it within the Assignment post.
- Click Submit.
- To verify your video was sent you can click Submission Details, you should see your video appear on this screen.
Create an Express Capture Video for an Assignment
- Before you get started please note:
- Express Capture is a web-based service, so any interruption in internet service could corrupt your recording, and it will not be recoverable. Use Express Capture for quick videos that are a few minutes long.
- Express Capture records from your webcam only.
- Click on the name of the Assignment to open and click the Submit Assignment button on the top-right to open up an assignment attempt.
- Scroll down past the instructions to the assignment upload box and click on the tab called Text Entry.
- On the text box editor click on the Kaltura icon on the right of the editor box to launch the Kaltura tool.
- Note: if you do not see the Kaltura icon, click on the expand menu icon (3 dots) and then click on the Kaltura icon
- This will open the Embed Kaltura Media window, click Add New then select Quick Capture.
- This will bring up a recording window, you should see yourself on the screen.
- Press the red circle to record when you are ready to begin and the white square when you are done.
- Play back your recording and make sure your audio and video was recorded.
- If you would like to submit this recording, click 'Use This' and fill out the name and description if you'd like. Mark the video to 'Published' and click 'Save and Embed'. This will embed the video inside the Text Submission box.
- Click Submit.
- To verify your video was sent you can click Submission Details, you should see your video appear on this screen.
Embed already uploaded video to your assignment
- If you've already uploaded your video to your Kaltura My Media, navigate to your assignment.
- Click Submit Assignment button on the top-right to open up an assignment attempt.
- Scroll down past the instructions to the assignment upload box and click on the tab called Text Entry.
- On the text box editor click on the Kaltura icon on the right of the editor box to launch the Kaltura tool.Note: if you do not see the Kaltura icon, click on the expand menu icon (3 dots) and then click on the Kaltura icon.
- Navigate to the video you want to post and click the icon for "</> Embed".
- You should see your video listed although it may still be processing (indicated by gears moving). Click Embed next to your video in order to embed it within the Assignment post.
- Click Submit.
- To verify your video was sent you can click Submission Details, you should see your video appear on this screen.
