When you upload files to your user account (Account > Files) or course (Course > Files), there is a limited storage quota allotted for each. We recommend deleting large files from the Canvas user files area to reduce your data usage.
For large media files in your course, please consider uploading to the Kaltura server instead, which does not have a limit. To bypass this restriction and to utilize Kaltura, please follow the steps in How to Upload Already Created Media to Kaltura and Post in your Course.
Once you've uploaded this content into Kaltura, you may delete the files from the course to free up your allocated space if necessary.
How to delete files from Canvas
- Navigate to your Files area in Canvas. Click on Account within the navigation menu, then Files.
- On the left side of the window, choose a folder that you want to delete a file from.
- Hover over the file(selected file will be highlighted blue) and 3 vertical dots will appear on the far right side of the file.
- Click on the vertical dot and an option to Delete the file will appear. Click on that option and the file will be deleted from Canvas.
Repeat this process on any other files that are not needed. By deleting files from your canvas, you'll be able to free up storage space and add more files to your courses.
