Overview
On 3/22/22 at 8 a.m. PDT, we will be updating the Canvas environment used by UCSD Extension to the UCSD (ucsd.edu) domain. This change will provide a more uniform experience for our users as the ucsd.edu domain will now be included in our Canvas course web addresses. Additionally, it will greatly reduce third party cookie issues that many users have been experiencing when accessing Kaltura media within Canvas. This article will provide all updates as we have them.
Please note, how students and instructors log in to Canvas remains the same.
Prior to this date and time, review the helpful tips below to ensure a seamless transition. This update should not require much, if any, downtime and will provide minimal interruption to your user experience with your course and content.
Schedule
3/22/22, 8 a.m.
The following items will be updated to the UCSD domain:
- URL on Canvas course content
- URL in messages and notifications sent from Canvas
- URL for Kaltura embeds
Helpful tips
While you should not experience any significant change in your user experience while using Canvas, there are some items that you may be interested in updating to minimize any interruption with your course.
Re-authorize external tools
If prompted to re-authorize your account when accessing any tools within Canvas, click "Allow", and you will be able to access your content.
Update bookmarks and any saved links
While the process for logging in to Canvas will not change, if you have any bookmarks that reference https://ucsdextension.instructure.com, they will need to be updated to https://extcanvas.ucsd.edu.
For example, if you've bookmarked your course in your browser (https://ucsdextension.instructure.com/courses/42), then you will need to update the URL to https://extcanvas.ucsd.edu/courses/42 to ensure there will be no issues with your access.
Notifications/Announcements received prior to switch
If you received a notification from Canvas prior to 3/22/22 at 8 a.m. PDT, you will need to navigate to the specific item through https://extcanvas.ucsd.edu instead of clicking through on the link that was sent to you. This will confirm that you are accessing the correct domain and avoid potential issues accessing your content.
