Disable Pop-Up Window Blocking (Everyone)

Disabling pop-up window blocking for online classes at UC San Diego Extended Studies will make sure you are able to successfully use all the features in Canvas. In order to disable pop-up window blocking for each web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or Apple Safari), please see the instructions below.

Internet Explorer:

  1. On the desktop, tap or click the Internet Explorer icon (the icon looks like a lowercase, blue letter "e") on the taskbar.

  2. In the top right corner of Internet Explorer, tap or click the Tools button (the Tools button looks like a gear) , and then tap or click "Internet options."

  3. On the Privacy tab, under Pop-up Blocker, uncheck the Turn on Pop-up Blocker check box, and then tap or click OK. This disables the pop-up blocker altogether.

  4. Alternatively, you can select the "Settings" button to the right and add: "https://extensioncanvas.ucsd.edu/" (without quotes) as an exception.

Firefox:

  1. Open Firefox.

  2. In the top right corner of the Firefox browser window, click the menu button (the menu button looks like three black lines or bars stacked horizontally), and choose Options.

  3. Select the Content tab/panel.

  4. In the content panel, Uncheck "Block pop-up windows." This disables the pop-up blocker altogether.

  5. Alternatively, you can select the "Exceptions" button to the right and add: "https://extensioncanvas.ucsd.edu/" (without quotes) as an exception.


Google Chrome:

  1. Open Google Chrome.

  2. In the top-right corner of the Google Chrome window, click the Chrome menu (the Chrome menu button looks like three black lines or bars stacked horizontally), and choose "Settings."

  3. Scroll down. At the bottom of the window, click the "Show advanced settings" link.

  4. Under the "Privacy" heading/section, click the "Content settings" button.

  5. Scroll down. Under the "Pop-ups" heading/section, check "Allow all sites to show pop-ups." This disables the pop-up blocker altogether.

  6. Alternatively, you can select the "Manage Exceptions" button and add: "https://extensioncanvas.ucsd.edu/" (without quotes) as an exception.

Apple Safari:

  1. Open Apple Safari.

  2. In the File menu select "Preferences" (Mac), or in the top-right corner of the Apple Safari window, click the Safari Settings button (the Safari Settings button looks like a gear), and choose "Preferences."

  3. Under the "Security" tab, uncheck "Block Pop-up Windows."

  4. Alternatively, you can toggle this setting by pressing "Ctrl + Shift + K".
